A concept album that details the evolution of the band's lead (Kevin Barnes) into their alter ego (Georgie Fruit - who helms the latter half of the album AND the following two albums), Hissing Fauna hits its peak during the 12 minute transformation at its core, 'The Past Is a Grotesque Animal'. This album's influences read like a Bill Hader Stefon bit, just actually performed by Stefon himself as well — synth pop, glam, funk, disco, indie, psychedelia and much, much more — but find a way to reach a devastating emotional cohesion.
