An early, underrated and (at least more) accessible masterpiece from Enter Fugue hero Jacques Tati.
He turns domestic modernism into behavioral comedy in a way many wouldn't consider to do themselves for another couple of decades. The house is full of objects supposedly designed to improve life, yet every surface, appliance, and ritual makes its inhabitants more self-conscious and significantly less free. The film understands that bad design is not merely ugly or inconvenient. It reorganizes a family around maintenance, performance, and embarrassment.
