Hamsterkauf is a German noun that literally translates to "hamster purchasing" but colloquially refers to panic buying, hoarding, or panic purchasing.

Absolutely shocking that Americans didn't come up with a ford this first, especially considering the the whole 'buying large quantities of essential items like toilet paper, canned food, or pasta—in anticipation of a crisis, shortage, or closures' thing that we tend to do.
