Unbelievable.
This is east meets west psychedelic jazz fusion at its absolute best. I am not exaggerating when I say that you can hear Don Cherry transcend musicianship into the real of a spiritualist, cult leader and cultural synthesizer. The album is mostly comprised of Cherry’s original compositions but is also mixed with covers of Terry Riley and Pharoah Sanders tracks.
People talk a lot about being nostalgic for the optimism of the 90s. I think that's fair. I have vague memories of that feeling myself. But I'll be damned if this album doesn't inspire a sense of global world-music induced idealism that ascends way beyond whatever it is that Bill Clinton was able to impose.
