An album built from a long-distance collaboration between Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, who lived in Seattle, and Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello, based in LA — Give Up runs with the theme of relationship's ability to survive distance and became a stone cold modern classic in the process. What started as an experiment, it is (now) an obvious touchstone of a new generation of indie that can do, make and express anything via their laptop in their bedroom.
